New Synflex® Solstice™ Air Brake Tubing

Eaton is proud to introduce Solstice air brake tubing, our latest innovation focused on the commercial vehicle segment. Leveraging our long history of innovation and material development, Eaton has developed a proprietary material that alleviates supply / delivery issues tied to traditional nylon air brake tubing products. In addition, this new product meets all performance requirements of SAE J844 and DOT FMVSS 106.

Solstice is currently available only in the ¼” size under part number 4247-041. Other sizes remain available as the Eclipse™ product.

The Solstice tubing is offered in both short roll and master pack quantities. The short rolls consist of 100, 500, and 1,000 ft individual reels, and master packs consist of 1,000 ft reels with 6 reels in a carton for a total of 6,000 ft. There are 8 color configurations stocked in short rolls and 10 colors are available in master packs. Other colors are available upon request with minimum order requirements.

LifeSense Hose Technology

Taking The Guesswork Out Of Hydraulic Hoses is how Diesel Progress describes the impact of Eaton’s breakthrough LifeSense hose technology. Featured in the magazine’s September 2011 issue, the article presents the technical background of the LifeSense development project and covers many of the important customer benefits this new product delivers to mobile equipment users.

Eaton product marketing manager Doug Jahnke presented the LifeSense story with clear examples of both the inner workings of the technology and the ways LifeSense helps customers improve the productivity and safety of their mobile equipment.

“One of our hose engineers was in the lab … was getting the same feedback whenever a hose was about to fail. So we started a project working with Purdue University to try and expand on what he learned to confirm those consistencies.”

“… users who use a time-based replacement process would get 50% or more — and sometimes far more — life out of their hoses with LifeSense,” Jahnke said. “… preventive maintenance becomes more of a routine process, and when they do have a hose that’s been identified as going to fail, they can do it during the preventive maintenance time or they can just stop the piece of equipment and replace it without having downtime out of the blue.”

The article goes on to examine a few real-world examples of how LifeSense hose can save customers from the cost of unscheduled downtime while also improving the availability of their production equipment.

Also covered in this issue are the new coupling lines Eaton recently added with the acquisition of Hansen Couplings and Coupleurs Gromelle, plus the new FF-Series of flat-face quick-disconnect hydraulic couplings.

Price Increase on Industrial Products

To Whom It May Concern:

While we continue to closely monitor the cost of raw materials and commodities used to produce our hose and couplings, our suppliers have not been able to contain these significant increases and we find it necessary at this time to adjust our prices.

Effective Monday, August 8th, 2011 Jason will increase prices on average 9.5%.

The adjustments will be made to List Prices and will vary by product line. The higher prices reflect true cost increases which have been accumulating during the past six months.

What is the production date of my hose?

The production date of your hose is provided two ways for Eaton Aeroquip hydraulic hose. A date code is usually printed with the exact production run date. The right and left picture depict the ink jet printed production date in white ink. After the hoses have been in the field, this date can be worn off, so to make it a more permanent solution, the date code is encrypted into the layline of the hose (may be written in permanent ink such as the middle picture or an impression strip has been used to permanently imbed the date code as well as other important data pertaining to the hose)

How to decypher the date code...

Simple! Look for the Q!

Most every hose will have the date code permanently imbedded into the hose and it is xQyy where x is the Quarter of the year it is made and yy is the two digit year that the hose was made. For example 1Q11 is first quarter 2011 or 2Q97 is second quarter 1997 (or 2097 depending when you're viewing this)

Easy quarter reference:
1: First quarter,     (January 1st to March 31st)
2: Second quarter, (April 1st to June 30th)
3: Third quarter,    (July 1st to September 31st)
4: Forth quarter,    (October 1st to December 31st)

When you change out your hose and the life span of your hose is up is dependent on the application. When there is any question as to the viability of your hose and you are/or not sure about any hose you are currently using, replace it immediately with a hose that can be identified.

                                      Chemfluor® Con-T Tubing

                                      Chemfluor® Con-T Tubing

Chemfluor® Con-T™ Convoluted Tubing is a companion to Chemfluor® CT-Flex Corrugated FEP or PFA Tubing.  Con-T™ is helically convoluted PTFE with stainless steel reinforcing coil encircling the outer surfaces between the convolutions.

PTFE provides the highest available degree of chemical inertness, together with high-temperature operating capability, low wall friction and non-stick qualities.

The convoluted form provides much more flexibility than is possible with smooth bore tubing, and the continuous spiral aids self-flushing.  The wire coil provides increased pressure and vacuum capability and aids in electrically grounding the system.

Barbed inserts are recommended for Con-T™ tubing.

                                              Chemfluor® 367 Tubing

Chemfluor® 367, a unique fluoropolymer, maintains fluid integrity, and in many ways outperforms tubing made from standard, even high-purity, PFA resin. The surface of Chemfluor® 367 is up to six times smoother than tubing made of standard and high-purity resin. This results in less cross-contamination, greater productivity yields and easier-to-clean systems. With its smooth surface, low extractables, excellent chemical resistance and outstanding mechanical properties, Chemflour® 367 can be used in virtually any application where maintaining high purity is critical.
